Hi Longfellow Community,

Starting this Friday (September 30th) you must bring your FOOD BANK CARD to receive food from the pantry.  If you do not bring your card, you will not receive your food for the week.  Also, you must be part of the Longfellow Community to participate in the food bank.  Only one card will be distributed per family even if you have multiple children at Longfellow.

Thank you,

Brenda Garcia

Outside of having a great Food Bank program in which we provide food to over 135 families each week, we also have our AM Snack Program for each classroom.

The purpose of this program is to provide a healthy snack to each student during recess time.

Every Friday, teachers bring their classroom bins to the cafeteria and volunteers distribute four days worth of snack so that all our 614 students get a least one snack a day for free. It is then delivered to each classroom.

If the child does not choose to eat there snack during recess teacher are ask to send the snack with the child afterschool. If you have any questions please feel free to ask our AM Snack coordinator via email at [email protected] or just leave a note at the office.

Food Bank Procedure

We are very proud of our Food Bank program. Every Friday (with the exception of days where there is NO school /holidays). Here are some of the procedures:

1.  Make sure you fill out a form for the Food Bank which can be obtained in the office.

2.  On Friday mornings we gather in front of the school form a line and receive a number.

2.  Then proceed and show your Food Bank Card and receive our food.

At this moment we serve over 135 families, and hope to continue doing so. I would like to highlight that this program is run by volunteers.  So please be considerate towards them. You can join this program by simply asking for a form in the office and return it to the office.  They will forward them to me. If your form is not received by Wednesday afternoon you will have to wait to receive you card the fallowing week. Note that with out a Food Bank Card you wont be able to get your food.

2011 Fall Fundraiser

Posted by [email protected] on September 20, 2011 at 2:25 AM Comments comments (0)

We are about to being our big fundraiser in October selling World's Finest Chocolate which helps support our many enrichment programs offered in our school such as arts, physical activities coach (Playworks), assemblies, gardening, and much more.  We hope you will all join our efforts, as you always do so well to help raise much needed money for our school and children, especially due to the funding cuts.

Parents/guardians who do not want to participate in selling chocolate for prizes can make a $25.00 donation (the profit from selling one box of 50 chocolate bars) for the students instead.  We would appreciate donations sent in as soon as possible so we know how much chocolate to order.

If you are making a donation, please send it in an envelope with your child's name and room number on it. If we don't hear fro you by September 28th, we will assume that you want your child to participate in the chocolate sale and will send home a box of chocolates for your child to sell.

Longfellow Elementary is so proud of the diversity of cultures that we have at our school.  This is why the PTA with the principal's approval is putting together a recipe book that highlights all the cultures that make up Longfellow.  Please submit in your favorite recipe by October 13th to the office so that we can publish it in Longfellow's First Recipe Book.  If you have any questions, please contact Brenda Garcia, PTA President.
